The beauty of Orkney in Farewell North is undeniable, but it’s not without its challenges. While exploring the skerries, you’ll encounter a trapped whale in need of help. Here’s a step-by-step guide to freeing the whale and tackling extra puzzles along the way.
Freeing the Whale
The task requires visiting two skerries, Southray and Northray, to release the net tethering the whale.
Southray Skerry:
Dock on the island and climb the hill to find the wooden stake holding the net.
Your companion will try to cut the rope but won’t succeed. Bring her a glowing flower to help.
After retrieving the flower, the stone bridge leading to the next stake will collapse. Circle around to a stone arch, look through it to repair the bridge, and guide your companion to cut the rope.
Northray Skerry:
Head to the dilapidated house atop the hill. Climb through a window to reach the stake inside.
Use another glowing flower to dispel the dark webbing blocking your companion, allowing her to cut the final rope.
Once freed, the whale will return to its pod, rejuvenating the islands.
Red Lighthouse Puzzle
While on Northray Skerry, complete the red lighthouse puzzle:
Enter the ruins and follow the red trail to a nearby house.
Dig up a lantern in the back corner of the house and return it to the lighthouse to restore it. This uncovers a memory and fills out more of Chesley’s journal.
With the whale freed and the lighthouse restored, you’re ready to move on to your next adventure in Farewell North!
